Servant at Work Meeka Wojo

Posted: Jul 17, 2021 / 10:52 AM EST / Updated

INDIANA (WISH) – Meeka Wojo is helping make a difference for Hoosiers with physical disabilities, one ramp at a time.

At just 10 years old, Wojciechowski is part of a group of Miss Circle City Indy pageant queens working with Servants at Work (SAW) to build a ramp at a home on the near-east side on Saturday. In addition to helping build the ramp, Queen Meeka Wojo raised the highest amount, $500, for the organization.   Messer Construction donated to the cause.  SAW is a nonprofit, volunteer organization that builds wooden wheelchair ramps for low-income individuals who are unable to exit their home safely.  Meeka is a well-known community volunteer who loves to help out and we are excited she is here with her team today.  Other pageant queens ranging from ages 5-60 will volunteer their time as well.

SAW typically builds between 200 and 300 ramps per year across Indiana. Executive Director Bob Richmond says it takes 5 hours to build a ramp.

Queen Meeka Raises Money for American Cancer Society with Her Team

“It is not the crown or title that makes a queen; it is the person that wears it.”

With that motto, Beauty of Hope strives to make a difference in the surrounding communities. The non-profit organization, which was founded on the principle of giving back, raises money for the American Cancer Society. Its goals are to build awareness and raise donations for this cause.

The Beauty of Hope pageant is now in its fifth year of working with the American Cancer Society. This year, contestants raised more than $6,000 so far.

The pageant is for girls and young women ages 5 to 21 . During the pageant process, the contestants go through an interview with the judges, model clothing and evening wear, and answer an on-stage question.  Top winners were: Little Miss, Meeka Wojo; Young Miss, Haley Carlton; Junior Miss, Prayse Odomes; Teen Miss, Rachel Lewis; and Miss, Storie Nickle.  Special recognition was given to the top fundraisers, Meeka & Haley.

Once the queens were chosen, their journey begins. Throughout their year of reign, they will attend many events for the cause with the hope of creating more awareness in the surrounding communities.
